In attendance:  Anne Shook

                           Holly Wylie

                           Theresa Barron

                           Robin Hall

                           Connie Walton

Joan handed to the committee the previous meeting’s minutes.  Since there were no additions or deletions to the minutes they will stand as recorded.

Joan opened the meeting with a discussion about the facility.  She stated that the final shipment of lampshades had arrived and they are the same format as the green glass shades but the new ones are white plastic.  Anne also brought up a question pertaining to the opening of the library on the Friday evening proceeding Saturday morning finals.  This will enable students a place to study for the final.  The request will be sent to Bob.

Joan handed out a compilation of the library survey to the committee and opened the meeting to discussion.  Robin suggested that the survey be placed online and the advisors would oversee their advisees on completing the survey.  Robin stated that previous surveys online had been very successful and it was easy to compile the data.  Everyone agreed upon the method of execution.  Theresa and Connie requested that two of the questions be deleted because of negative association with the wording.  The other change suggested was the clarification of the term “project” in one of the statements.  Robin felt that we could possibly get the survey to the advisors before Christmas break.

Joan asked for comments around the table and Holly wanted to know if it would be possible for the library to acquire audio books for the middle school.  Joan stated that she had no objection to audio books.  The reason there were none in the collection was because previous departments felt that students should have to read books rather than listen to them.  Holly said she would pass the discussion on to David and Kelly to find out their point of view.

Connie proposed the question as to the teaching of research skills within the various departments.  Joan mentioned that there was no formal decision pertaining to the teaching of research skills in the curriculum.  She stated that several teachers incorporated the skills into their lesson plans, but she was unaware of the adoption of research skills within the entire curriculum.

Since there were no additional items from the committee the meeting was adjourned.  The next meeting is scheduled for January 25th.
