Varsity Baseball Wins at Robbinsville

The Eagles got back to their winning ways with a nice 12-10 win at Robbinsville. The Eagles used some key hits and aggressive baserunning in getting off to a 7-0 lead after two innings. The Black Knights would not go away and scored five runs in the third inning off of sophomore righthander Frank Sarno. Rabun Gap countered with five more runs in the top of the sixth inning to go ahead 12-7. Robbinsville battled back and scored three runs in the top of the seventh off of Will Butler, who had come in to close out the game. The game ended with a fine catch in centerfield by Miquel Carrillo.

Rabun Gap enters Spring Break at 7-4 (4-2 in the CAA) and plays next at Hiwassee Dam on the 24th of April.

 

Rabun Gap Baseball Falls to Christ School

The Eagles suffered their worst loss in eight seasons Tuesday night at Christ School. Atrocious defense and overall poor play resulted in a 20-2 conference defeat. Christ School played very well and gave Rabun Gap few opportunities to stay in the game. Greg Duelfer got the Eagles on the board in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI groundout. Rabun Gap scored again that inning on a  passed ball.

Rabun Gap is now 6-4 and 4-2 in CAA play.

 

Rabun Gap Soccer Wins over Asheville Christian

In the game cut short due to inclement weather, Lady Eagles recorded their third conference victory of the season against visiting Asheville Christian Academy.  Rabun Gap came out strong from the opening minutes on both ends of the field while creating chances as well as making defensive stops.  The only goal of the game came in 28th minute scored by Lake Richmond. Lady Eagles are 5-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the conference.  Rabun Gap will be back in action on Wed., April 9, against Asheville School with kick off scheduled for 5 PM.    

 

Lady Eagles Tie Asheville School in 1st Meeting

Rabun Gap Lady Eagles traveled to Asheville to play a strong Asheville School team.  After 80 minutes of hard work, scoring opportunities, and continued action by both teams, neither side was able to score.  Early in the first of two 10 minutes overtimes, Asheville School was able to take an advantage of defensive mistake by Rabun Gap and take 1-0 lead.  As the game continued, Lady Eagles never thought that game was over and pushed themselves even harder.  It was not until the last minute of the second overtime that Jesse Greener scored a beautiful goal from a free kick to tie the game and go home with a draw.  Lynsi Wavra, Ellen Downing, and Ansley Yates had a great defensive performance while Autumn Walton collected 5 saves.

 

Varsity Baseball Defeats Asheville School 8-4

Freshman Miquel Carrillo picked up his first varsity win with six strong innings on the mound and Greg Duelfer and Will Butler contributed big hits as the Eagles defeated Asheville School 8-4. Carrillo came on in the second inning in relief of Kevin Chang and limited the Blues to just three hits. Another freshman, Richard Barron, made his first varsity start at third base and played excellent defense in helping Rabun Gap improve their overall record to 6-3 and their conference record to 4-1.

 

Varsity Baseball Defeats Spartanburg Day 18-7

The Eagles pounded out thirteen hits and four pitchers combined to limit the Griffins to eight hits in improving to 5-2 (3-0 in the CAA). Will Butler had four hits, including his team leading third HR, and Greg Duelfer added three hits and his second HR as both seniors knocked in four runs to lead the offensive explosion. Miquel Carrillo, Marc Derisse, Steven Fan, and Butler added key doubles as the Eagles scored seventeen runs in the first two innings. Several Rabun Gap players made their varsity debuts worthwhile, not more so than Richard Barron.  The freshman ended the game in the fifth inning by snagging a hot shot to third base and starting a 5-4-3 double play.

Rabun Gap continues conference play Monday with a “home” game against Asheville Christian at Franklin High School’s baseball field at 7pm. The change in venue was made necessary by the addition of the permanent outfield fence due to be completed by Thursday.

 

Golf Team Earns First Win

The 2008 RGNS Varsity Golf Team is very young and inexperienced this season.  Sophomore Chan Im is the only returning regular golfer from the 2007 season, while freshman Lyle Jones returns having competed in one match as an eighth grader.  The remaining members of the golf team are new to the sport, or have not experienced competitive golf.  They are sophomores Bryan Hopper and Patrick Penland and freshmen Paul Lee, Kevin Jung, Vincent Yoo, and Ameenah York.
